Startup Salon delves into the heart and soul of ideas; and the blood, sweat and tears involved in executing them.
We believe that there’s no better people to inspire others to make great things happen in their lives than the founders of startups. These events are for people curious about entrepreneurship or intrapreneurship.
Our last event focused on building a tribe. It was on Thursday 13th April in Dogpatch Labs. We discussed how aspiring founders need to gather a tribe around them if they are to succeed at setting up a business. As usual the panelists looked at this from all angles and shared their insights into how best individuals seeking to create an autonomous and fulfilling work life as an entrepreneur can find their tribe to help them achieve their goals.
Our next event is on Thursday September 7th, in Dogpatch Labs. The theme is Startups of the Future: how sustainability, societal impact and #tech4good will be key metrics of startup success in the future. This is aimed at aspiring entrepreneurs who want to use their skills and experience in sustainability, sociology and technology to help address the key problems of the future (if not today!) that will need to be solved collaboratively between business and governments.
Tickets are available here.
What’s a startup?
Traditionally a startup is a technology business. But new businesses are catching on to the value in adopting a tech approach to setting up. Start small. Validate an idea. Test it. Then let it grow. Gradually; validating, testing, as you go. This is the approach GLD is taking.
This is a monthly workshop for anyone interested in designing a career based on individual purpose, autonomy and creativity. It is also aimed at people who feel disengaged at work.
All kinds of businesses are facing an increasingly competitive and fast moving marketplace; they need enterprising individuals who can help them innovate.
Great Life Distillery believes that the focus on innovation is a very positive economic development for employees because now they need to tap into their own purpose (which is responsible for their intrinsic motivation) and creativity (linked to divergent thinking which is used in problem solving and connecting disparate ideas & concepts). As well as this they need to be comfortable with taking risks to follow their instincts to discover that piece of value added novelty that allows their organisation to bring something into the marketplace that is meaningful and unique; what’s more, they need to own and lead these more risky endevours.
These qualities describe the intrapreneur. To be an intraprenuer you need to be engaged by the work that you do.
The goal of Intrapreneurs Squad is to unite and emplower aspiring intraprenuers in Dublin to take control of their work lives and help the businesses in which they work be more innovative.
You’ll learn and tackle together, as a squad, disengagement at work.

GLD events & workshops support diversity
Our events facilitate connections with all kinds of people with all kinds of ideas. Our events will give you a mix of technology, food and drinks, banking, health, wellbeing and social enterprise – any kind of business whose story we think is worth sharing. We want to give people with diverse interests and ideas space to learn together, connect and find common ground: Common ground is where diverse connections can be made, from which fruitful collaborations may form.
It is much easier to achieve a dream if there is more than one person working to make it happen. So come along to one of our events; stick around after the panel discussion and chat with those who’ve inspired you and those who share your dreams. You never know what kinds of connections you will make. And then…well….the rest is up to you.
